One of the first things you should consider is how you can make your operation more efficient. Not using energy that you don’t need to is one of the best ways to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.

The sorts of things that are worth considering here are:

• New equipment
  Replace worn out old equipment with more efficient newer versions. Acquire equipment to make things run smoother and require fewer fossil fuels. This could mean a newbuild boat, or upgrading a piece of machinery to the latest version.

• Digital tools
  It is difficult to know sometimes where you might be inefficient, and acquiring digital tools that can help measure and identify inefficiencies is one of the best things to do – plus it helps you document the gains you make.

• Operational changes
  Removing wasteful parts of your business processes can really help drive efficiency. Most changes that will save you on fossil fuels will save you money in other ways too, requiring less maintenance, or taking less time.
