There are some important events, either industry events, or relevant dates, that we want Members and Partners to be informed of.
2024 Calendar Year
World Maritime Day
26 September 2024
Why we care: This connects with international shipping, but also any sort of maritime work under the IMO’s remit.
Hunter Innovation Festival
17-31 October 2024
Why we care: Many of our members are based in the Hunter and this event brings some media attention to innovations occurring in the Hunter region.
INNOVOCEAN
20 November 2024
Why we care: Now that MERC and OIO are partnering together we would like to use INNOVOCEAN to create some excitement about the potential to create innovations that will help the maritime sector decarbonise (like Hullbot).
World Sustainable Transport Day
24 November 2024
Why we care: This is possibly the most relevant UN international day for MERC. It is all about sustainable transport, which of course includes maritime transport.
2025 Calendar Year
Argus Green Marine Fuels Asia Conference
18-19 February 2025
Why we care: MERC Chair Angus McDonald has been asked to moderate a panel at the conference on Australian renewable fuels (“Australia spotlight: creating a hub for exporting green marine fuels. What are Australia doing today to remain competitive?”).
Update: Angus has declined this speaking engagement.

Everything Electric Show, NSW
7-9 March 2025 - Sydney Showground
Why we care: We are running Discover Maritime Futures at this event, and many of our participants will be exhibiting their electric products.
If you just want to visit the show, but can’t be there on Friday, then you can still register for free tickets for MERC participants.
Ocean Lover’s Festival
Month of March 2025 - Sydney
22-23 March 2025 - Bondi
Why we care: This is a great way to get attention for maritime sustainability advances with the general public (especially in Sydney). They welcome partners bringing events across Sydney into the fold, so may be a good partner for an electric boating meetup.
Indo Pacific International Maritime Expo
4-6 November 2025 - ICC Sydney
Why we care: This is one of the premier naval and maritime industry international events in Australia. It is simultaneously an international industry exhibition, and a conference featuring presentations and symposia from leading maritime institutions. It only runs every second year, so the last one was in 2023. It can be a great opportunity to reach an international audience, especially in the Defence sector.
